Delight In His People

20 Comments April 3, 2009

It’s pretty late and I’ve spent the day writing songs for the new Salvador record, the new Jaci Velasquez record, or for the first ever Nic and Jaci Duo record. I feel so excited that I have a great family, a great band and music coming out of my pores. Even with lack of sleep, there’s pep in my step. Tell me, have you ever been there? It might be something as sweet as looking good in your skinny jeans (not me). What ever it is, there are moments when I feel unstoppable… trying to stay away from arrogance by stuffing God in between your thoughts as “I conquer the world.” As a believer we are programmed to believe in something bigger then ourselves, but when the glory is being rained upon you, it’s so hard to remember all the moments of insecurities.

Back to a day of perfect rock-and-rollism…The family is well; both of my boys seem to love me, my beautiful wife still loves me and I pause to sit on the couch dressed up from the day and rattle off all the things I did that day. I hug the big boy Zealand and kiss his head, then I scoop up my baby boy, Soren, and begin to talk to him just like he cares what I did that day. With my best smile, I imagine my baby as an adult and look into his eyes and wonder what he thinks about his dad. Just then as I laugh at how goofy he looks, he decides to throw up and it launches into my mouth.

Psalm 149:4 (New International Version)
For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.

You look at your son wondering how he would look as a young man and what he thinks of his dad…, well all I can say is when my first born was placed on my lap for the first time I said to myself, “how can I possibly care for such a beautiful gift from God” Well, 14 years later I see my son who has grown up to be a handsome young man. Dedicated to his first true love, his drums and focusing in school to make a difference in this world. He has touched so many lives with his music and has brought many young people to recognize God as the one and only. All I could do was pray every night that God would give me the wisdom, patience, understanding, unconditional love and plant that seed knowing that God will work in him every day. I can honestly say, God nor my son have disappointed. So when you see your sons and hold them both, know that you have already planted that seed, just like your parents did. That is the greatest gift a Father can give his children. I just hope and pray that God will continue to walk with my son, and yes my beautiful daughter and that they will never forget their first tue love. Your music has been a great blessing in our lives and thank you for the long hours you work to make a difference in this world. We love you guys and pray for you always…

  • My husband’s father spoke very little English, Spanish was his primary language. My husband and I sent him every Salvador recording we could get our hands on. He loved them, so do we. It was a wonderful chance to witness to him(I understand Spanish, but don’t speak it) like I hadn’t been able to in the 36 years I was blessed to know him before he went home to Jesus. Thank you so much for your fantastic music.

    Hey Nic !

you and Jaci have set an example for me ! As I listen to your songs, I think about the experiences you tell (through the media) you’ve been living with God that resulted in those lyrics ans music ! Oh ! And Salvador band ?! what an amazing band. Yesterday, it was holiday in Brazil, and we were all in my pastor’s care, taking a ride, a group of 4 people, singing out loud: “WHAT WOULD BE LIKE IF WE LEARN TO LOVE EACH OTHER…” and “EEEEEEEEEEVERYBODY NEEDS YOU, EVEN THOUGH THEY CANNOT SEE YOU….” and all other songs…. WOW…. we’re so blessed. lol And …please… keep running to our Father’s arms ! I know that is what makes the whole difference in your lives. In Christ, love for your wife (specially, Jaciii… thaaanks for showing how lovely and faithful the Lord can be through your sincere songs !!), your two kids and you Nic !

    saludos desde BRAZIL !!!!!!!!!!!
